Founded in 1950 and now in the hands of the third generation of the Mazier family, the 6 hectares of vines here have been certified biodynamic since 2016. Cuvée Georges is a mixture of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Savagnin, the famous grape of the Jura. The grapes are vinified and aged separately but in the same, oxidative style in old oak barrels with no topping up. The barrels develop the characteristic "voile" or veil of flor that the Jura is famous for, and the wines are blended together before bottling. Expect the freshness and purity of Chardonnay to be contrasted with hazelnut notes from the Savagnin. Very complex, with a finish that goes on and on, and serious depth and breadth. Full of character, Sherry afficionados and lovers of oxidative wines will love this!
